Filmmaker Fellowship

The WeOwnTV Filmmaker Fellowship is a film fund and professional development program supporting the production of independent documentaries directed by West African filmmakers. Our program is currently open to filmmakers who are living and working in Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone and are also citizens of those countries. The program provides filmmakers with funding for their project, creative labs, one-on-one mentoring, professional development workshops and networking opportunities.

The fellowship was founded in the wake of the West African Ebola outbreak (2014-2016). Today, now faced with a global pandemic, social unrest, and economic uncertainty, we believe it is critical to provide forums for self-expression and peaceful debate through the medium of documentary film. In 2020/2021 fellowship, we are not currently accepting new applications. Instead, WeOwnTV is focussing on offering continued support to our alumni fellows as they work to complete their projects.

The Fellowship is made possible through generous support from the Bertha Foundation, Jonathan Logan Family Foundation and Global Giving Foundation.
