Meet Our Team

WeOwnTV’s mission is to create artistically bold media that explores the critical issues of our time and reinforces a culture of creativity and engagement.
With all of our projects we work to cultivate deep community engagement that inspires, educates and transforms audiences into socially engaged citizens. We are also deeply committed to media education. In 2009 we co-founded the WeOwnTV Freetown Media Center together with local Sierra Leonean filmmakers Arthur Pratt and Lansana Mansaray. The media center is an important educational and creative hub in the heart of the capital city in Sierra Leone.
Recent work has been supported by the MacArthur Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, Sundance Institute Documentary Fund, Jonathan Logan Family Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, Tribeca Film Institute, Creative Capital, Kenneth Rainin Foundation, Bay Area Video Coalition, Fledgling Fund and The Bertha Foundation.

  • “Prepare for a touching accomplishment in documentary cinema. THE GENIUS OF MARIAN is delicately moving, an important film for anyone experiencing or afflicted by Alzheimer’s disease."
    The Examiner, April 2013
  • “THE GENIUS OF MARIAN is by far the most meaningful representation of a family’s experience with this disease that I've seen (and I've seen a few). Its value as a conversation-¬‐starter for families and caregivers cannot be overstated.”
Susan Rowlett / Manager of Care Consultation & Clinical Education, Alzheimer’s Association
  • "These videos from WeOwnTV are actually making a difference in the way people are educated and respond towards Ebola. Attitudes are changing. People are not denying it anymore and behaviors are changing towards the issues."
Michael Ibrahim Kargbo / Head of TV at Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation
  • “(The Genius of Marian) is a remarkable film, not only for the obvious affection with which it was made, but as art.”
    Indiewire Magazine, April 2013
